Concentration Concept:
Through my body of work I want my viewer to feel like they are in an alternate universe where imagination takes you on a journey and makes you think about what is on the canvas and why it’s there. My work has a utopic and futuristic feel to it and I want my viewer to feel the creativity that I worked so hard produce and put on canvas. I think a lot of art these days is just a display of your skill and techniques meaning a lot of people just reproduce images and call it art. For me, my concentration is about thinking outside of the box and using my imagination in conjunction with my technique and skills to create something that it so out there. My idea of my concentration stems from the concept of dreamscapes. A dreamscape in my eyes is a landscape of a scene with strangeness and mystery almost like what you think of when you have a cool dream. I’ve been working hard to establish pieces where the subject and the landscape work together in an odd but functional way. For example, one of my favorite pieces that I have done so far consists of a squid tentacle grabbing a planet in space. In my opinion this was a huge step in the development and investigation of my concentration theme because the concept of the piece really grasps what I was trying to convey in my concentration. I’ve also learned so far throughout my pieces what works and what doesn’t work. I’ve established that incorporating details, patterns, and shapes into my pieces enhances them and gives them more character along with making them look more like surrealism. As I continue my journey of study with my concentration I hope to gain more respect for the creativity that is put into pieces as I complete it. Technique: My most preferred medium is acrylic. I feel the most comfortable using acrylic but this year I have experimented with oil which was different but I would love to explore more using it. In a lot of my work I use paint pens to create details. When I first started I only really used pen and ink and now I am proud to say that I have been going out of my comfort zone. Inspiration: My inspiration this year has changed a lot in comparison to last year. I really took my time to appreciate color schemes. I worked really hard to incorporate the concept of color into my work and concentrations this year. |
